New WIP: Wood Duck

I am currently working on a 20 x 16 oil painting of a male wood duck. This dashing fellow was hanging out with another male at a pond near my work this past winter, at of all places, a Super 8 Motel...you just never know where you'll encounter wildlife! I spent many lunch breaks taking photos and sketching them. We had a rough, cold winter, so the ice hung around for awhile. I loved when the ducks would climb out of the water and stand on the thin ice. This is what inspired this piece. It's got some favorite elements I like to depict: water, reflections, and a gorgeous bird.

Finished: Red-Bellied Woodpecker

I apologize...it's been awhile since I've posted any updates. I assure you I've been painting away! I've been working during this time on a piece I could not share with you, as it will be featured in a magazine at a later date. I got a little off-track on the blog posts because of it. I realized I never shared with you the finished Red-Bellied Woodpecker...here he is! Hope you like him.
