New WIP: Red-bellied Woodpecker

Currently on the easel, is this small oil painting of a Red-bellied woodpecker. This piece measures 8x8. I'm trying to complete a few small, affordable pieces of local birds for an upcoming show later this summer in my hometown. I will keep you posted on the details as I know more. I started this piece by toning the surface with a thinned acrylic mix of pyrole orange and a touch of white. You can see it peeking through on the unfinished bird. The bark was then loosely roughed in with oils thinned with mineral spirits and the bird was started.
