New WIP: Otter Painting

Last week, I started work on an otter painting in oil. This piece has been on my mind for awhile, but I struggled to get the right reference. About a year ago, I finally got decent reference of an otter swimming. I'm excited about this piece because I love otters and love painting water. It will be challenging to paint the moving water, reflections of the overhead trees, and the wet sheen of the otter's coat. Really hoping this one turns out well. Click images below to enlarge.
WIP 1 - The ugly block-in stage.
I loosely sketched this in with oils thinned with mineral spirits.
WIP 2 - The next layer starts to go on. This layer is where I refine my sketch and start to loosely add some detail.
I started work on the otter's head and the lower right portion of the water.
