Finished: Barred Owl
I finished the Barred Owl Saturday - just in time for the Sunday midnight deadline to enter the Randy Higbee Gallery's 6" Squared Exhibition & Sale. Hopefully, this one and Hoot Owl (my last 6x6 of the Great Horned Owl) make the cut! I think they look very nice together as a pair.

Hi Kelly,
I love these two owl pieces. I am intrigued by your loose underpainting technique; I think it is very effective. Good luck with the Exhibition entry!
Thank you Gabrielle! Good news -- I was notified that both owls were accepted into the exhibition.
Hi there. Lovely paintings! You might like to see some of our pictures of a Barred Owl that my wife, Jean and I took this past Sunday, up here in Toronto, Ontario. As you were painting your magic, we were taking pictures of the same type of bird. And what a bird!!! pics if your interested are at: http://frametoframe.ca/photo-essay-barred-owl-sighting-markham-ontario/
Hi Bob - Thanks for your lovely comment and for sharing the link to your photos! I had the pleasure of photographing some barred owl owlets back in the spring...I hope to make a painting someday from my photos.
