Update 3: Fox Watercolor

Slowly but surely, this piece is progressing along. It's slow-going because there's lots of nooks and crannies and little details that are slowing me down. This is a progress shot before I started work yesterday. Since then, the fox has been started and he's nearing completion. Getting close to finishing this one up.

Update 2 on the Fox Watercolor

Here's the last few day's work on the fox watercolor. I've been painting lots of twigs and little patches of leaves and earth peeking out of the snow.

Update on Fox Watercolor

I'm sort of working my way up on this one. I got the water pretty much out of the way to start off with. Now, I'm progressing up the stream bank laying in the roots of the tree, snow on the rocks, and shadows on the snow.

I couldn't resist posting a few pics after yesterday's record blizzard...

Snow was above my knees, so it was over 2 ft. at this point in the yard. There were areas that were much higher from the drifting.

One of our pretty blue spruces.

I was pleased to learn today that my watercolor Red Tail has been juried into the 2010 Adkins Arboretum Art Competition. The theme of the show is: Discovering the Native Landscapes of Maryland's Eastern Shore. Artworks chosen for this exhibition reflect or interpret the wild nature and landscapes of the Mid-Atlantic coastal plain. The exhibit will open Feb 15 and run through March, with a reception on Saturday, Feb 27, 3 - 5 pm.

New WIP: Fox Watercolor

I started this new watercolor last week of a fox along a snowy streambed. It measures 13 x 14 inches. This painting came about after a recent photo excursion in nearby Susquehanna State Park. One of the first photos I took was of this stream. It was early morning and I loved the sunlight filtering through the trees, the puffy snow on the rocks, the shadows being cast, the roots of the tree clinging to the bank, and the dark reflective water. I thought this would make a great setting for a red fox.
